Bomb-hoaxer brought chaos to capital, court is told
AN alleged King’s Cross bomb-hoaxer caused chaos during a month-long campaign against commuters in central London, Southwark Crown court heard.
David Treharne, who lives in Argyle Street, denies making 11 hoax calls between December 2006 and January 2007.
The 51-year-old targeted the Houses of Parliament, a hotel in Bloomsbury and Paddington station mainline terminal, it is claimed.
The famous station had to be evacuated and trains halted, the court was told, after five hoax attempts took place on successive days. His campaign also included Euston and King’s Cross stations and Bernard’s Hotel in Bloomsbury. it is claimed.
Prosecutor Teresa Hay told the jury on Wednesday: “There were calls on a number of days, sometimes with gaps between them, but increasingly towards the end of the series calls were being received every day.”
Ms Hay said an emergency response to the calls took place each time Mr Treharne carried out the hoaxes.
“And it was in order to cause a reaction,” she said.
