Crossrail is set to go off track

A COALITION of heavyweight campaigners hope they have delivered a knock-out blow to Crossrail ahead of a crunch week for the £16 billion plans.
MPs heard details of the scheme, which will tunnel a high-speed rail link underground between Paddington and east London, in a crucial third reading in the Commons yesterday (Thursday).
The Residents Society of Mayfair and St James’s had delivered a legal letter from leading environmental lawyer, Richard Buxton, to every MP before the reading.
It stated that Parliament should not be considering the bill as evidence about the schemes devastating potential to the environment has wrongly been omitted.
Mr Buxton’s letter states: “By failing to to deal with so many representations, the select committee has hammered a nail in the coffin of the Hybrid Bill process.”
