Lifeguard dies in bus accident

A lifeguard was killed by a double-decker bus in the early hours of Saturday.
Tom Greenaway, from the seaside town of St Ives, Cornwall, was hit outside the Centre Point tower at 2.45am.
The 22-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
As news of the “freak accident” filtered back to the West Country, friends set up a memorial forum on the internet site Facebook.
More than 400 friends had joined the group leaving messages of goodwill to Mr Greenaway’s parents Ruth and John.
A lifeguard on the popular Porthmeor Beach – one of the top 16 beaches in the country and host to the Tate Gallery – he was known in the surfing community for “rock-running”.
The dangerous training practice, only performed by experienced surfers and lifeguards, involves deep-pool plunging while holding a heavy rock.
The rock-runners keep hold of the boulder and sprint forward as far as they can, then let go.
Officers from the Traffic Garage at Euston are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. Anyone who saw the collision is urged to contact them on 020 7388 6806.
