Honour for parks man

THE head of a horticultural college in Regent’s Park has been recognised for services to the industry at a ceremony in Buckingham Palace.
Steve Dowbiggin, CEO at Capel Manor College in the Stone Yard on the Inner Circle, was rewarded in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for his work at London’s only specialist college in horticulture, landscaping, floristry, countryside and arboriculture.
He said: “London is one of the greenest cities in the world, with nearly 70 per cent of its area either greenspace or water.
“Increasingly, Londoners and London companies are recognising and valuing this, and that is leading to a major increase in demand for the college’s services.”
Prince Charles had donated funds to improve the college and had supported Mr Dowbiggin in his £2 million fund-raising campaign a few years ago.
