And there was even a basket of carrots for Santa’s reindeer
IT was Christmas lights spectacular last night (Thursday) for most of central London but Marylebone Village opted for a more low key approach.
Children queued outside Santa’s grotto where a basket heaving with carrots awaited his reindeers.
Schoolchildren from Queen’s College in Queen Anne Street, St Marylebone C of E School in Marylebone High Street and St Vincent’s RC School on Vincent Street, performed on stage to the upturned faces of their delighted toddler fans.
At 6pm the snow machine churned out yet more snow, a pyrotechnics show sprayed colour into the night sky and the Christmas foliage around the shop fronts lit up.
Jenny Leach who lives in Cumberland Market took her daughter Amber, 6, to see Santa Claus.
She said: “We are having a lovely time. It’s such a nice atmosphere and it gets you in the spirit for Christmas.”
The landlords Howard De Walden Estates which own shops and accommodation on Marylebone High Street holds a Christmas illuminations party every year.
Events organiser Jenny Edwards said they expected to raise up to £4,000 for Children in Need.
She added: “While other places in central London focus on technology, this is about getting the community together.” |
