‘Beckham’s sister talked to gunman’, jury hears
DAVID Beckham’s sister was enjoying a night out at a top West End club when a man was shot, a lawyer revealed on Wednesday.
Prosecutor Jason Dunn-Shaw told an Old Bailey jury that Joanne Beckham was at the Astor Bar and Grill, off Piccadilly, as City worker Michael Henry suffered a near fatal injury.
Mr Dunn-Shaw challenged the defendant Muziwakhe Skosana: “It is a fashionable club and you were talking to a lady. She is the sister of the footballer David Beckham?”
Car dealer Skosana, 24, who denies attempted murder, agreed he was chatting to Ms Beckham in the basement bar, but said he was not the gunman.
The jury heard that Mr Henry, 26, was shot in the stomach after becoming involved in an altercation. A tiny bullet, fired from a two-inch doublebarrelled “key-ring” pistol, was later removed from close to the base of his spine.
“He staggered towards the front door of the club, in Glasshouse Street, clutching his stomach, and was held there by door staff until the ambulance arrived,” said Mr Dunn-Shaw.
Skosana, of Garrick Court, Edgware, is alleged to have been identified as the gunman.
In addition to attempted murder he denies firearms charges arising from the investigation of the shooting, which took place October 15 last year. He said he was talking to Ms Beckham when a shot rang out.
