West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 26 October 2007

Box clever, save fight club for our youngsters

• ISN’T it a bit rich for the Conservative candidate for Westminster North to complain about the state of the All Stars Boxing Club’s premises on Harrow Road (Fight club’s survival bid, October 19), when it is Conservative-controlled Westminster City Council which is partly responsible for the poor state of repair of the building by its decision to sell the building back in the 1990s?
And isn’t it the same Conservative Westminster – the richest council in Britain – which has, year after year, failed to give the All Stars the money it needs to develop its services for local youngsters?
The fact of the matter is that it has been Labour councillors who have been campaigning to get the All Stars building repaired and the presence of scaffolding around the building shows that Labour’s efforts are succeeding and works are currently under way to get the repairs done.
Cllr Paul Dimoldenberg
Labour Councillor for Queen’s Park Ward
Leader of the Labour Group
City Hall
Victoria Street, SW1
