Scooter teen guilty of cyclist robbery

A TEENAGER has been convicted of a high-speed scooter robbery in Paddington that left an art student in intensive care for eight weeks.
Alex Sztorc, 17, denied robbing Jane Gauntlett in Harrow Road on February 3.
But yesterday (Thursday) a jury at Inner London Criminal Court found him guilty and sentencing will take place on October 11.
Ms Gauntlett, who lives in Camden Town, was knocked from her bicycle after being flanked by four thieves riding pillion on two mopeds in February.
They snatched her handbag, containing just her mobile phone, driving licence and make-up worth £125.
She veered off the road smashing her head on the kerb.
In a statement issued last night Ms Gauntlett’s family hit out at the “callous crime” that has left the 25-year-old with lasting injuries.
It stated: “Jane’s injuries were directly caused by people who did not bother to think about their actions.
“We hope she finds ways to cope with the changes imposed on her by those who placed their greed before humanity.”
Her family said Ms Gauntlett is still receiving treatment for her injuries.
Paddington Detective Inspector Mark Roycroft said: “I am delighted with today’s result, which should send a clear message to others that robberies and other street crime are not acceptable and the Metropolitan Police will pursue offenders and put them before the courts.”
Police say they are continuing to hunt the other offenders.
