West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 14 September 2007

Our priority is a Pimlico turn around, not populism

• FOLLOWING on from the excellent work of Jo Shuter and her team at Pimlico we will be announcing in the next few weeks our choice of sponsor to run the new academy at the school.
The decision to make Pimlico Westminster’s fourth academy was not popular with everyone, but our priority is to turn the school around as quickly as possible and I firmly believe this is the best way to do it.
Work will begin in January to rebuild Pimlico as part of Westminster’s £152 million Building Schools for the Future programme.
A new strategy will be debated and agreed with all secondary heads, including the academies as far as they wish. The leader and I will be taking a personal interest in listening to proposals and taking them forward.
With around 150 languages spoken in our schools, Westminster’s teaching staff do a fantastic job providing pupils with the education they do.
But there are areas in which we need to press for further improvement and I believe by this time next year we will be well on the way to providing the first-class education all our children deserve.
CLLR SARAH RICHARDSON ,
Cabinet Member for Children’s Services
Westminster City Council
