West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 14 September 2007

Sanctuary licensing

• IN response to the letter published from John Latimer Smith (Pulteney residents against club licence, September 7) I would like to reassure Soho and in particular residents of Great Pulteney Street that our licence application is not for the purposes of opening a private members club.

The Sanctuary is a television post-production facility, and will continue in this line of business. The premises we occupy have been a post-production facility since the mid-1990s, servicing Soho’s media industry without any problems affecting the other residents.
As a large television facility we have a lot of clients and staff who, occasionally, will have a drink on the premises. For legal reasons we have applied to have a licence so we can provide a staff bar and service to clients as members of Sanctuary.
The hours of licensing are required so that we may serve alcohol to members when they are working, due to the long hours of business. The licence application will not increase the number of people accessing the building; change the purpose of people coming to the offices (that is, they will not be coming to the offices as a drinks venue of an evening); or affect the number of people around the offices at anti-social hours beyond the late hours that a few staff and clients already occasionally work.
I hope this response reassures residents, and if anyone still has concerns they are welcome to contact me at the Sanctuary.
