Policeman shot himself in the leg

AN armed guard shot himself in the leg while patrolling close to the US Embassy in Grosvenor Square.
The diplomatic protection officer was in the Walton Street, Mayfair, when the accident happened on Saturday.
It is thought he was getting into a car when the weapon discharged.
Scotland Yard on Monday said the injured policeman was in a stable condition.
A spokeswoman said: “The officer shot himself in the leg. The incident occurred while he was on duty in a police vehicle. The officer was taken to a central London hospital where his condition is described as stable. Nobody else was injured.”
The Metropolitan Police’s directorate of professional standards is investigating the incident. The matter has also been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission as is usual when a gun is discharged.
The spokeswoman added: “The officer will be relieved of operational firearm duties while the investigation is carried out.”
