West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 24 August 2007

Judge by results

WESTMINSTER City Council’s claim to be “probably the best council in the country” is way off the mark if the key stage 3 results are anything to go by.
Compared with the 2006 provisional results, the percentage of Westminster pupils in 2007 achieving level 5-plus has fallen by 3 per cent in both English and science and by 1 per cent in maths.
Nationally, the percentage of pupils achieving level 5-plus has increased by 1 per cent in English, decreased by 1 per cent in maths and increased by 1 per cent in science.
The reality is that Westminster’s educational performance is truly appaling. Earlier this year, Westminster’s secondary schools were placed bottom of the London league table (and third worst in the country) in respect of value-added scores.
How the CPA inspectors managed to rate Westminster “excellent” with an education record as poor as this is truly remarkable.
CLLR PAUL DIMOLDENBERG
Leader,
Westminster City Council Labour Group
