Church scheme continues to reach out to children
REFUGEES from the St John’s Wood Adventure Playground visited the St Marylebone Parish Church to learn about Christianity.
It was part of a pioneering inter-faith play scheme teaching young people about all the major religions.
They visited the Liberal Jewish Synagogue in St John’s Wood the week before.
St Marylebone Church verger Amy Marwood said: “My church promotes interfaith dialogue and I was pleased to welcome Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Buddhist visitors. We can all learn from each other when we share our cultures and traditions. Some of the group had never been to a church before while some of the Christians attend each week, it was inspiring to see how such a diverse group could all share in the visit.”
Imogen Rees, 8, said: “Amy was really kind, she let me try on the costumes. I was the sub-deacon. I liked her church, it’s nice and colourful.”
Felicity Byrne, who helped organise the event, explained the importance of the programme: “Refugees and asylum seekers are among the most disadvantaged and marginalised, volunteering on this programme greatly assists their inclusion and integration, it is by taking part in this that they can realise their full potential.”
The next trip is to the London Central Mosque on Wednesday. |
