Square points of view

• RE Mr Girling’s response to my letter of August 3, I am rather despondent given that his attitude to my opinions seems to be a selfish one. (Some help to ‘escape’ from the fun in Trafalgar Square, August 10).
Presumably, it all depends on what one considers to be “fun”. He obviously enjoys the fare provided in Trafalgar Square but does this give him the right to impose it on others not of the same opinion? Would he enjoy listening to the Philharmonia Orchestra in the square, for example? I most certainly might, but have never considered that I have the right to “inflict” this type of music on others unappreciative of it.
Why is one thought to be a killjoy if one expresses some cynicism of these issues, assuming, as Mr Girling does, that the so-called majority are indeed appreciative of these events? It matters not, apparently, to those organising them that some of us once in a while might enjoy the area without having “sounds” forced upon us throughout the summer months. Is it not the case that so-called “minorities” are deserving of consideration?
His comments show an attitude of intolerance as he unashamedly advocates even more of these “events”, with no consideration for others. How dare he suggest that I steer clear of Trafalgar Square! Is this a no-go area at weekends?
