West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 27 July 2007

Hard headed

• I KNEW there was something I liked about Jo Shuter – her modesty (Award-winning sharp Shuter calls the shots, July 20). As a libertarian, I find her too authoritarian. Kids are under enough pressure from this control freak government as it is without teachers joining in.
I’ve never got over being bullied at school and the current system amounts to institutionalised bullying. I may add that the kind of person prepared to patrol the streets with a walkie- talkie to sneak to the head is the kind I prefer to avoid. Teachers’ authority should end at the school gates.
Heads should be elected by the staff and all rules have the assent of a school council.
MARK TAHA
