West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 13 July 2007

Working for the West End

• I WRITE in response to Ron Whelan’s letter (Central London council anyone?, July 6).
Contrary to Mr Whelan’s suggestion, our most recent independent MORI City Survey confirmed that a majority of West End residents are overwhelmingly satisfied with our performance.
We understand that spending every pound of council tax wisely is essential to creating the value that delivers excellent services and that is why we are driving forward a number of key programmes.
Our Soho Action Plan, for example, aims to regenerate Berwick Street, Ham Yard and Great Windmill Street by addressing residents’ concerns and supporting independent businesses.
Plans for the Edgware Road have seen the creation of an Ambassador’s Project led by a group of local residents and businesses to help identify local needs and priorities.
We have a number of other programmes of renewal for Oxford Street, Regent Street and Bond Street, Leicester Square, China Town and Covent Garden.
It is this commitment – through our One City plan – which allows individuals, families, businesses and communities to flourish across the West End and indeed Westminster as a whole.
