Stitch in time saves the Seven Dials Sundial

A CHARITY has been recognised for its long-standing commitment to the Seven Dials, Covent Garden.
The first national PRIAN award – “public realm works that have stood the test of time” – was presented to the Seven Dials Trust on Friday.
Set up in 1984, the charity worked with Camden Council and major freeholders to reconstruct the Seven Dials Sundial Pillar.
Regarded as one of London’s great public ornaments, it was pulled down by the mob in 1773.
Colin Davis from PRIAN said the charity had “brought an entire neighbourhood back to life”.
Trust chairman David Bieda hoped that the award would show “urban regeneration can be based upon active conservation of the built heritage” instead of demolition and rebuilding.
