Ashmob light relief for smokers
THE world’s first “Ashmob” descended on Covent Garden Piazza on Sunday.
The stunt – pulled on the day the smoking ban came into force – was inspired by the rise of the “Flashmob”.
The Flashmob – a rebel party group – organised a mass rave at Paddington station last November. Thousands using MP3 players turned the concourse into a dance floor.
Ashmob organiser Alexie Duggins, 25, who failed to get the sound system up and running, gave a short speech in front of 20 people dressed in gold, white and red.
“Technical difficulties or not, we ashmobbed through,” he said.
The crowd clapped and cheered lighting up cigarettes illegally.
Wardens outside the Piazza entrance to the Royal Opera House moved the crowd on at about 3pm.
Toby Boon, 25, said: “It’s about smokers and non-smokers coming together to have a bit fun and show that smokers are not all bad as most of the press coverage will have you believe.” |
