Judge dies in window plunge
A CROWN court judge has died after a plunge from his flat in Dolphin Square, Pimlico.
Judge Rodney McKinnon, 64, fell 50 feet from a window in Drake House in the exclusive block on Friday.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Southwark Crown Court judge, a former vice-chairman of Dolphin Square Tenants’ Association, came from a celebrated dynasty of justices – two of his brothers are serving judges and his father was his Honour Neil McKinnon QC.
The block has housed politicians, peers and society figures including General de Gaulle, Princess Anne, Harold Wilson and Christine Keeler.
DSTA member Patricia McVicar said: “Everybody is completely devastated that something so awful could have happened.
“He was a private man who played golf in his leisure time. He moved into the square about 15 years ago. While living at another address nearby, he used to park his car at the Dolphin Square car park until a new rule was introduced limiting its use to residents. Rather than lose the space, he moved into the square.”
Brendan Martin, DSTA chairman, said: “He was very well known and well liked, particularly among the older residents.”
Judge Rivlin said Judge McKinnon was a man of “impish, joyous and self-deprecating” humour.
He said: “He will also be missed for his generosity, warm-heartedness, modesty and friendship.”
A police spokesman said they are not treating his death as suspicious. |
