Crossrail ‘will cost billions’

ANGRY Mayfair residents have blasted the multi-billion pound rail project proposed to cut across London as “unlawful, insensitive and a complete waste of money”.
The Residents Society of Mayfair and St James’s has levelled fierce criticism at the Crossrail public rail scheme for planning a route that will tunnel under the sensitive historic and listed buildings of their area, bringing more traffic.
In a case of “the lesser of two evils”, the society has suggested a revised route through Marylebone.
Society member Marina Morrison Atwater said: “We believe the Crossrail scheme being presented to Parliament is bad for Mayfair and bad for London. It will bring thousands more shoppers into an already over-crowded area and cost the taxpayers billions.”
