Tories backing PM home plan
TONY Blair’s announcement of his exit from Number 10 won approval from Westminster Tories this week.
Six Conservative councillors voted unanimously in favour of a planning application to renovate the Prime Minister’s future home in Bayswater.
Mr Blair announced his resignation yesterday (Thursday) as Prime Minister. He will move into Bayswater from Downing Street on June 27. But plans to combine his £3.65million Grade-II-listed townhouse in Connaught Square to a mews house in Archery Close have triggered objections.
Neighbours objected to plans to build a roof terrace, solar panels and CCTV cameras.
They fear “noise and smells” would disturb them and claimed the solar panels were mere “fashion accessories”. Planning chiefs imposed a condition that canopies, fences, radio antenna or satellite dishes would be banned from the roof terrace.
Councillor Alastair Moss, chairman of the committee, said: “Our planning department has a crucial role in making sure Westminster develops in the right way as well as maintaining its unique historical and culture heritage.”
