Hanging point

• TOM Foot made a mistake in his review of Paul Willetts’ book North Soho 999 (Anatomy of a gun-law culture, April 27). Albert Pierrepoint was not the last executioner; he retired in 1956 but the death penalty lasted another nine years. Our last executioner was the late Harry Allen.
