Rooftop body casts are latest high art of sculptor Gormley

CASTS of the body parts of one of the country’s leading sculptors are being placed on rooftops around Westminster.
Parts of Anthony Gormley, the creator of the Angel of the North, started appearing across Westminster on Monday as part of a London-wide installation called Event Horizon. The casts’ arrival coincides with an exhibition in the Hayward Gallery on the Southbank.
The body parts will remain at the gallery until the display ends on August 19.
The approved sites are in the Strand, Arundel Great Court, Bretten-ham House, South-West Bush House, the Swissôtel, the Howard, the Thistle Hotel and Waterloo Bridge.
Hayward Director Ralph Rugoff said: “It is a privilege to be working with Antony Gormley on this major exhibition in which he explores entirely new ground.“
Awarded the Turner Prize in 1994 and the South Bank Prize for Visual Art in 1999, Antony Gormley’s work focuses on the human figure.
