No peace for the Peabody

• I CAN tell your correspondent where the noisy youngsters go in the daytime (Joyless nights at Peabody, April 20). I live on the Peabody Estate in Victoria where a football cage has been erected.
This is described as a benefit to the residents because it provides somewhere for the children to play in safety where their parents can see them.
The fact is that we
get footballs smashing against walls and wire netting for hours on end, which causes much stress to older residents.
The refusal of the authorities to help alleviate this misery is incredible.
When I went into a police station to complain that I needed peace and quiet, I was told by an immature copper that I should go into an old people’s home!
The worst is yet to come. Ahead of us we have longer evenings, the school holidays and the necessity to open windows in the heat.
We can no longer enjoy fine weather as it is only quiet round here on rainy days – a pathetic situation!
Doesn’t nobody care about the peace and dignity of older people anymore?
