Museum’s renaissance marks turning point in history
ROMAN legionnaires, World War II bus conductors and Tudor ladies rubbed shoulders with 21st century MPs and schoolchildren in the Foundling Museum on Monday.
The event was to showcase the government’s £150 million museum investment programme Renaissance in the Regions.
Culture Minister David Lammy MP was joined by Shadow Arts Minister Ed Vaizey MP and pupils of Parkwood Primary School in Victoria at the launch.
The Foundling Museum in Brunswick Square, Bloomsbury, won Renaissance funding for its Theatre in Education programme.
Culture Minister David Lammy MP said: “Renaissance has been absolutely vital to regeneration, to tackling deprivation, to bringing us that creative economy and inspiring young people.”
The Foundling Museum was London’s first home for abandoned children. It’s founders include the philanthropist Thomas Coram, the artist William Hogarth and the composer Handel.
