Bailiffs need to be watched
• ONE of the most controversial aspects of the City Council’s operations is the use of bailiffs to recover unpaid council tax and unpaid parking fines.
At our regular Tuesday advice sessions we often get first-hand stories from residents who have been at the receiving end of what they believe to be heavy-handed or downright rude behaviour from some of the bailiffs employed by the City Council.
Recently we have had a number of people close to tears because of the way they believe they have been harassed by the council’s bailiffs. As a result of this we have asked for a report to be produced for the next meeting of the Finance and Resources Overview and Scrutiny Committee on Monday March 26.
This meeting is at City Hall. It starts at 7.00pm and is open to the public.
We hope that this meeting will investigate the current practices used by the council’s bailiffs and recommend changes to improve the service.
