FIGHTING
Directed by Dito Montiel. Certificate 15

COUNTRY hick Shawn MacArthur (good All-American surname, that – was it deliberate?) heads to the big bad city and struggles to keep afloat.
Despite having some vaguely moralistic principles he is quickly reduced through poverty to selling knock-off rubbish to make a living until wise-cracking New Yorker Harv (Terrance Howard) appears.
He thinks poor Shawn may have what it takes to make a living with his fists – namely, in the brilliantly macho world of secret punch-ups on the bare-knuckle circuit.
He is so successful he becomes a star fisticuffs merchant, scrapping with kung-fu fighters, wrestlers, and other assorted sadists to earn himself a living and the promoters and bookies a fortune.
Of course, it can’t all go on like this and soon poor Shawn finds himself fighting for his very life.
Well crafted and thankfully taking itself so seriously that it goes right off the scale and is a bit of a laugh, Fighting is a formulaic action picture aimed at boys of a certain age.
