A photography first and a 50-year choice

THE first-ever photography exhibition to be held at The Boundary Gallery starts this week.
Artist Gitl Braun’s show includes pictures of her abstract sculptures and images based on themes from the Old Testament.
Perhaps the most striking part of the show is a series of works based on 19th-century Sicilian puppets.
Curator Agi Katz said the idea came from her reaction to the work of Braun. “I was so impressed by its painterly, sculptural qualities that there was no doubt in my mind that I was looking at a major talent,” she says.
Squeezing five decades of work into one show is the challenge Dartmouth Park-based artist Ken Adams has faced while choosing items for his current exhibition at The Koukan Gallery. The former tutor at St Martin’s School of Art has included abstract and figurative works, as well as paintings from trips to France, Italy and Spain.
His retrospective of 50 years of his work in painting and sculpture started this week and the array of materials he has used throughout his career is one of the key aspects of the show. From ceramics to bronze and polished brass, through to canvases of bright oils and acrylics, Ken’s life in art has a huge range.
