The Review - AT THE MOVIES with DAN CARRIER
Published: 29 January 2009

Pick of the Week

FOLLOWING a praise-laden letter from one of my dear readers regarding the Prince Charles Cinema, I feel duty bound to keep up the good work and let you know what else their Double Bill Mondays have in store for you lucky viewers.

Raiding the celluloid archives for suitable bedfellows, the programmers down at the West End’s best cinema have clearly had some fun on our behalf. This Monday they are treating us to two crackers: The Karate Kid and Enter The Dragon. Who can forgo the opportunity of seeing on the big screen Daniel Son learning the moves by washing cars and painting fences, followed by Bruce Lee showing how it really done in the classic 1970s Kung Fu movie?
The following Monday it’s a Hitchcock double bill: North by North West and Vertigo. I challenge any man to watch Cary Grant in N by NW and not feel like they need a new suit and a shave.
On February 16, it’s two classics from my childhood: the puppet fantasy extravaganza The Dark Crystal, and then David Bowie’s super-weird Labyrinth.
Finally, February’s double bills finish with a monster special: The Thing and one of my all-time favourite movies, An American Werewolf In London. So rock down to the Prince Charles, where seats are a fiver and you can drink beer too.
