Pick of the Week

AMERICAN documentary maker Michael Moore’s exposé of the US health care system, Sicko, comes to the Renoir on February 8.

Screened by the London Socialist Film Co-Op, the film sees Moore consider our own NHS. Afterwards, there is a discussion led by health campaigners. 020 7278 5764.

• The following month the Co-Op screen a Spanish double bill. Madrid before Hanita has film-maker Eran Tobiner reflecting on the story of Jewish people who travelled to Spain to fight Fascism. Torbiner interviews surviving volunteers and uses archive footage to tell this heroic story.
The Guernica Children focuses on the story of the 4,000 Basque children rescued from the Fascist advance after the bombing of Guernica, the largest single contingent of refugees ever to arrive in Britain. Both films are screened on Sunday March 8.

THE Prince Charles has some humdinger Monday double bills starting with Bugsy Malone with The Blues Brothers on the 26th to get you dancing. The following week its The Karate Kid with Enter The Dragon, then North by North West and Vertigo. That is programming at its finest.
