The Review - AT THE MOVIES with DAN CARRIER
Published: 8 January 2009

Also on release this week

Bride Wars
STARRING Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway, Bride Wars is one of those films that could go some way to helping the divorce rate fall – simply because you’ll turn round and think what a stupid idea marriage is in the first place if it’s anything like this.
The pair are best-est of bezzie mates. But no. Things go badly wrong in their seemingly brilliant relationship when they both decide to have their weddings on – wait for it – the same day! It’s as shallow and silly as it sounds, and as tasteless in parts as a pink gingham bridesmaid gown.

Role Models
WHEN childish energy drink reps Danny (Paul Rudd) and Wheeler (Sean William Scott, are given 150 hours’ community service for trashing one of their company’s vans, they face a stark choice of time in the slammer or acting as mentors for youngsters.
But the little people in need of strong, respectable older figures are more mature than our heroes. As they are faced with a series of increasingly difficult situations, they have stark choices about their own morals and values to make. You can guess the rest.

Sex Drive
THIS tasteless teen comedy tells the story of Ian Lafferty, an 18-year-old loser virgin who decides he must break his duck.
To do so, he resorts to trawling the internet for potential dates – and then finds a willing volunteer.
The catch is she lives 500 miles away, and so our hormone-addled chum borrows his brother’s fuel-guzzling car, ropes in his friends and treks across the country.
Crass and full of awful jokes, it lacks charm and wit.
Perhaps its only saving grace is the fact lead man Josh Zuckerman realises he is not cut out for much more than this, and throws himself into the role with relish.
