The Review - AT THE MOVIES with WILLIAM HALL
Published: 1 May 2008

Pick of the Indies

REVOLUTION is in the air as a major film retrospective on the events of 1968 takes over a series of cinemas this summer.
Dubbed All Power To The Imagination, a wonderful collection of films and events have been collated to mark the rise of resistance.
Cinemas taking part include the Renoir, the Curzon in both Soho and Mayfair and the British Library.
It kicks off on Saturday at the Soho Curzon with Angela Davis: Portrait of a Revolutionary. Other highlights include the 1964 film Soy Cuba (I am Cuba) which lays bare the horrors of Batista’s dictatorship, and is followed by a discussion led by Professor Mike Gonzalez, who wrote Che Guevara and the Cuban Revolution.
Other highlights include the Vietnam War film Tell Me Lies, with Hampstead and Highgate MP Glenda Jackson discussing the film, and Newsreel: Columbia University, which tells the story of a student revolt against its college’s racist behaviour.
