Brand aid! How Sarah Marshall forgets her broken heart in Hawaii

FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL
Directed by Nicholas Stoller
Certificate 15

SAY “Aloha!” to a romantic comedy that is as seductive and breezy as the warm winds blowing though the Hawaiian palms, and as escapist as you could wish for to get away from these gloomy times.
We’re back in the world of one of Hollywood’s favourite themes: the dim-but-nice guy, Peter (Jason Segel) who gets dumped by his girlfriend (Kristen Bell) after five years together, and becomes an emotional wreck, letting his life fall apart, burning all his beloved’s photographs, and ending up sobbing on the carpet.
To clear his head – and maybe start again – Peter heads for Hawaii, only to find to his horror that his ex has checked into the same resort hotel with a new boyfriend (great stuff from our own Russell Brand), a tattooed sex-mad rocker with a healthily laid-back attitude.
Now the poor chap’s sobs are so loud the other guests are complaining.
Ignoring a friend’s advice down the phone from LA to go easy on his emotions and hit the bachelor trail (“Pump the brakes! Just screw anything that moves!”) he mooches around the place like a lost soul.
But surrounded by honeymoon couples, free love and laughter, it’s only a matter of time before he succumbs to a local beauty (Mila Kunis) whose own carefree attitude is the best tonic for forgetting his self-pity.
This latest offering from producer Judd (Knocked Up) Apatow hits the spot every time everywhere it takes aim, coupling raunchy adult dialogue (be warned) with hilarious cameos and sharply observed one-liners.
As effervescent as a champagne cocktail, raise your glasses to an all-round treat.
