The Review - At the Movies with DAN CARRIER

DVD of the Week

THE DA VINCI CODE

THE Da Vinci Code is released this week – and the adaptation of the Dan Brown’s best selling novel will please fans of the book.

Tom Hanks and Audrey Tatou are the sleuths trying to crack the secret of the Holy Grail, and scaring the wits out of the Catholic Church at the same time as they uncover the tale of what really happened to Jesus and Mary.
Although Hanks as Professor Robert Langdon leaves a fair amount to be desired, Tatou as the code-busting French police officer Sophie Neveu is plausible and keeps the couple one step ahead of the evil killer albino monk Silas, played with a hefty dose of menace by Paul Bettany (pictured).
With Jean Reno and Sir Ian McKellen also starring, there is nothing wrong with the acting. But although Brown’s story lends itself well to a holiday read, as a film often appears to be just too far-fetched to engage your brain.
