The Review - AT THE MOVIES with WILLIAM HALL

Warhol’s girl

FACTORY GIRL

Directed by George Hickenlooper
Certificate 15

THE Factory in question being Andy Warhol’s New York pop-art studio which at the peak of his fame in the 1960s became a hang-out for everybody who thought they were somebody.
From rock stars to Z-list celebs, they all gathered to worship at the master’s feet.
The girl in question is Edie Sedgwick (Sienna Miller), a social butterfly whose starry lifestyle ended in a downward spiral of drugs and psychiatric wards.
The two men in her life are Warhol (Guy Pearce) and a singer/songwriter named Billy Quinn (Hayden Christensen).
Warhol comes over as cold-hearted and manipulative, using the naive newcomer for his own ends. Quinn is generally accepted to be a thinly disguised Bob Dylan – though the folk singer himself tried to halt the film’s distribution.
