BLACK women in film are being celebrated at the Tricycle Cinema in Kilburn this weekend.
The Images of Black Women film festival kicks off on Friday evening with a screening of Julie Dash’s cult 1991 film, Daughters of the Dust, a languid poetic look at a family in transition set on an island off the coast of South Carolina and Georgia.
Dash, who also directed Funny Valentines and The Rosa Parks story, will be on hand to answer questions about the film and also pick up a life-time achievement award from organisers.
Other highlights include short animated films for children, an animation workshop and a strand devoted to reflections on the transatlantic slave trade.
For more information about the Images of Black Women festival, call the Tricycle Cinema on 020 7320 1000 or go to www.tricycle.co.uk.

ON a completely different note, the Curzon in Mayfair hosts a one-off screening of director Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette on Sunday, to coincide with an exhibition on the subject at the Royal Academy.
The screening will be followed by a discussion between historian Antonia Fraser and Sarah Greenberg, editor of the Royal Academy magazine.
Call the Curzon Mayfair Box Office on 0870 756 4621.
