Casablanca

It’s World War II and Casablanca has become a staging post for refugees, intrigues and cocktails.
We meet American Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart pictured), a man with a colourful past exiled from Europe, running the Café Americain, the number one night spot in Morocco.
Into his bar steps a variety of colourful characters – the Czech resistance hero Victor Laszlo, a counter to Rick’s cynicism. He is wanted by the Nazi Major Strasser, who bullies French police captain Renault, the who has left his morals at the door of Ricks.
And Laszlo’s arrival on the scene comes with another surprise – he has brought Ilsa, Rick’s beautiful former love, with him.
Apart from being recognised as one of the greatest love stories ever told, the political history behind Casablanca is a story in itself.

* Casablanca is screened at the Curzon Soho and the Curzon Mayfair from February 14.
