Area/Ward:

West Hampstead

Formerly a rural community on London’s outskirts, it was known as West End village. It still retains its village-like feel today, particularly round the little patch of West End Green and the fire station built in 1901. Its name change was initiated by the railway station, probably to avoid confusion with the nearby West End of the capital. Famous names such as actors Stephen Fry and Emma Thompson live here, along with many young professionals. The shops, cafes and bars of West End Lane prove a popular draw, and of course, the O2 Centre. The world-famous Acol bridge club too, is just a short walk from the station.
