Kentish Town

Kentish Town grew up around an ancient thoroughfare North on the line of the now submerged Fleet river.  Originally named Kentistonne, it was once a quiet medieval village of pastures and farms and before the 18th Century was a genteel country retreat.  An influx of new residents followed in the 18th Century, along with the building of railways and post-war, much new housing was built.  A lively off-shoot of Camden Town, with prominent music venue the Kentish Town Forum, and notable pubs such as the Assembly House, one of the oldest in Camden.
