Big Match Special

Our weekly spotlight on one of the league’s big games

A DOUBLE strike from striker Jay Oliver earned St Pancras the honours against Highgate in the latest of our Big Match Special contests.
This game between two of the league’s top three was a thriller from the start as Highgate’s Charlie Noble stepped past two defenders but hit his shot just over the crossbar.
Saints responded through Oliver, who had already seen one shot blocked before his low and powerful effort found the back of the net.
Oliver then combined with Jay Douse to create an opening for Tanzil Animashaun, whose shot was cleared off the Highgate goal line by Noble.
Highgate’s No 11 capped his first-half performance with an excellent right-foot finish that drew his team level.
The play continued to go from end to end and Highgate were grateful for Joe Berriman’s perfectly timed tackle that denied Douse the chance to shoot.
The decisive moment came just after half-time when Alfie Miles surged down the left flank and slipped the ball to Oliver, who turned his marker and beat the keeper for 2-1.
Highgate rallied and Ben Berrick was unlucky not to get a scoring touch to Berriman’s cross, while Noble also dragged a shot wide.
But Saints held on to take the points that lift them to third in the table, two points behind second placed Highgate.

Man of the Match
Jay Oliver

Jay was a consistent attacking threat throughout the game and produced two very good finishes just when his team needed them.
