Crawl a great celebration of music on our doorstep

The Dublin Castle was again fortunate enough to be be included in the Camden Crawl.
I wish to declare from my observations, as a small venue operator, that it was again a phenomenal success. As I stood at the doors to the street I witnessed smile after smile upon hot, flushed sweaty music lovers who again knew they had witnessed something special.
Big friendly ‘bye byes’ came after wave after wave as I thanked them for coming to the Dublin.
Dozens of Supergrass fans knew they had witnessed a very rare and intimate gig performed by their heroes. For the others, the tourists, the live music lovers and the music industry that attended, who had witnessed a raw, hot and sweaty delivery of live music, delivered to the audience loud yet intimate. The Dublin Castle had the honour of Supergrass performing – a big band, with a big pa in a very small venue. All present knew this was going to be special and it was!
I even noticed your CNJ reporters Roisin Gadelrab and Charlotte Chambers right in the thick of it all. They emerged from the gig, hot, sweaty and smiling! The support to the Camden Crawl was incredible and the majority of it was unannounced and unexpected. I was happily surprised to find members of the Department of Culture Media and Sport hanging out with the music fans enjoying the night. Even the chair of the UK Live Music Forum Fergal Sharkey was there to talk to fans and to offer help, encouragement and support to the events.
I was also delighted to find council Officers of Camden’s Art and Tourism Department were in attendance to enjoy the evening and ensure that things ran smoothly.
Our councillors were also touring the venues keeping a watchful eye on Camden Town and offering guidance and encouragement to all. The Camden Crawl is a great way to promote Camden, its musical history and its economy.
The Camden Crawl 2006 was a fantastic celebration of live music on our door step. It underlined Camden as the launch pad for bands onto the world stage.
It is an unrivalled celebration that must continue. Where else would successful bands and musicians happily return to year after year to contribute to this phenomenon? Camden is famous the world over for its live music. Let’s keep it that way.
