Big Match Special

Our weekly spotlight on one of the league’s big games

Under-10 A
Hampstead Hawks 4
Hawks 0

HAMPSTEAD Hawks enjoyed a cracking Easter as they won the latest of our Big Match Specials on Monday to take over at the top of the table.

Chasing back-to-back titles, Hampstead failed to make the most of their first half dominance as the game remained goalless going in at the break.
In the second half, man-of-the-match John Souster stepped up from the heart of Hampstead’s defence to add an extra presence in midfield.
The move paid off as Niko Lysandoides’ long ball found Conor Jones, who slotted home from close range to open.
With Hampstead keeper Harry Gottlieb in fine form, it was important for Hawks to make a quick comeback.
But it was Hampstead who doubled their lead when the referee spotted a handball in a crowded penalty area.
Up stepped captain Danny McCarthy to coolly convert the spot kick. Hampstead added a third when Freddi Fitzsimmons unleashed a thunderous drive from distance.
And in the final minutes Samuel Phinikas rounded off the scoring when he cut back inside the final defender before curling his shot past the keeper from the edge of the area.

Man of the Match
JOHN SOUSTER

Man of the match John Souster didn’t put a foot wrong throughout the game. He inspired Hampstead to push forward as they chased the all-important victory.
