Spurned candidate goes it alone

AN independent candidate is standing in Hampstead Town ward after falling out with Camden’s Conservatives.
Brian Kettell, who lives in South End Road, Hampstead, had hoped to replace Councillor Brian Cattell, who is standing down, as the ward’s third Tory election candidate on May 4.
Tory boss Councillor Piers Wauchope said Mr Kettell had not impressed when interviewed and the party had instead chosen Kirsty Roberts, a familiar face in the Save Our Green campaign.
He added: “It is part of our policy of looking at candidates who have been active in the community. Kirsty has worked very hard in the community even if not always wearing a blue rosette. She will be an excellent councillor.
“I am surprised Brian Kettell is standing as an independent.”
Mr Kettell has criticised the Conservatives’ selection process.
