Red carpet treatment for pupils’ royal visitor

SCHOOL pupils in Finsbury Park pulled out all the stops to give Prince Michael of Kent a royal reception when he made a special appearance yesterday (Thursday).
He was greeted in 10 languages by pupils from Islington Arts and Media School before being treated to entertainment by the school’s choir and dance troupe.
After the performances, the prince gave an award to the winner of an essay competition and was interviewed by two journalism students.
He said the performances were very “professional and polished” and that he was delighted to have been invited.
“To be greeted in 10 languages is just wonderful,” he said. “This is a hugely diverse school with so many different backgrounds that can share their experiences with each other.”
Richard Ewan, headteacher, said: “It was a great privilege to welcome Prince Michael to see the success of our arts and media school. Performing to royalty will have given our pupils great confidence in the performing arts and across the curriculum.”
The Prince also visited St Mark’s Church in Tollington Park, where he was greeted by Bishop Sandy Millar and members of the congregation. He was also given a tour of the Andover estate by residents.
