Bench marker: Highbury Square memorial is blessed

ARSENAL manager Arsène Wenger joined club directors and bosses in a blessing ceremony in Highbury Square to commemorate 500 Gunners fans who had their ashes scattered at the former stadium.
Highbury Stadium was converted into a 700 flats – but sections of the pitch were transformed into a green space for flat owners.
The fans’ ashes, which were scattered at the North Bank and Clock End, were kept in a temporary garden of remembrance during the development works. They have now been moved back to new resting place beneath the grass turf in the memorial garden.
Arsenal Director Ken Friar said: “These supporters all spent huge parts of their lives at Highbury and we are very proud that we have been able to commemorate them at Highbury Square.”
