Ram-raid gang foiled

A RAM-RAID gang left empty handed after targeting a convenience store.
Five men wearing balaclava masks fled when they realised that their attempt to rob A & S Food and Wine in North Hill, Highgate, late at night last September, was a failure.
Despite causing a great deal of damage, they escaped with nothing after being scared off by neighbours, prosecutor James Melvin told the Old Bailey.
The man accused of leading the raid and being in the driving seat of the Mitsubishi 4x4 the gang used, claims he is the victim of mistaken identity.
The shop’s shutters were buckled and its glass shattered by the impact. With the sound of police cars ringing in his ears, the driver took off at breakneck speed, the jury heard.
Following a chase along Spaniards Road, the man at the wheel abandoned the moving 4x4 leaving it to crash into a parked car. He ran into woods in North End.
Shortly afterwards “jogger” Warren Allen, 26, of Steve Biko Way, Archway, was arrested in the locality.
Allen, who maintains he knew nothing of the incident, denies charges of burglary and dangerous driving.
The case continues.
