Benchmark protest ‘We won’t stand for loss of seats’

WEARY shoppers have launched a plea for more benches at the Nag’s Head shopping centre in Holloway.
Tired customers, fed up having to take turns to sit outside Morrison’s in Holloway Road, have organised a petition calling for the return of benches removed when the shopping centre was refurbished.
Shopper Maureen Hancock, who joined a protest on Friday, said: “People using the Nag’s Head really appreciated the old seating in the precinct.”
She told centre managers: “Please put back similar seats so the elderly, the disabled and families with children have somewhere to rest.”
Lib Dem councillor Tracy Ismail said: “The owners of the shopping centre should listen to their customers and put more seating in.
“There’s a particular problem outside Morrison’s, where people have to sit in shifts on the few benches there.”
A spokeswoman for BTW Shiells, which manages the Nag’s Head shopping centre, said the benches would not be returning due to “budget restraints”, but added: “It will be considered in the next financial year.”
