No loss of caretakers
• WE are consulting with residents and staff about estate service improvements (Strike threatened over loss of live-in caretakers, October 23).
Caretaking is an essential part of our estate services and we are clearly proud of the improvements made in the delivery of our caretaking service in recent years. Although we’re proposing to reduce the number of residential caretakers, the savings will be used to provide additional caretaking cover.
At this point in the consultation we can reassure residents we will not be making any resident caretakers leave. There will be no loss of overall caretaker numbers or redundancies. In fact, there is likely to be an increase in overall numbers.
There are no recommendations to work any set afternoon patterns. Caretaker working arrangements will be based on the wishes of residents through consultation on each individual estate.
Weekend working will only be amended once we’ve asked residents for their views.
We will be improving the amount of caretaking cover for holiday periods. This will be done at no extra cost to residents. Once staff consultation is concluded we will contact resident groups to discuss how we could individually tailor the service they receive.
