Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 30 October 2009

Ripe for imitation

• THANK you, Jane Howard, for setting an example by saving your street’s pear trees (Harvest time for pear trees that escape the axe, September 26).
I am putting your article on my Transition West Bridgford blogsite as it is so inspirational and a great example of common sense winning against the health and safety police. We have had problems where I live with the council even refusing to plant fruit trees in our parks because they are worried about health and safety. However, we do have a team of volunteers who will go out and pick people’s fruit from their trees rather than it wasting away.
