Scout leader is jailed
THE Scouts were forced to reassure parents this week after an assistant leader was jailed for 15 months for having sex with underage recruits.
Stephen Stretton, 23, of Copenhagen Street, who belonged to Islington, City and Camden Scouts, based in Holloway Road, preyed on 14 and 15-year-old girls at camp. He was jailed at Blackfriars Crown Court and will go on the sex offenders register.
Stretton told police he met the first girl at camp in summer 2006 and, according to the 15-year-old, they were having sex nearly every time they met. Stretton admitted six specimen accounts of engaging in sexual activity with a child between August 2006 and July 2007.
Spokesman for the Scouts Association Simon Carter said they had worked closely with the police and were pleased that a person who had abused the trust placed in them by parents had been convicted of his crimes. |
